Abdul Kalam!!-Did the Nation betray him???

Hello all!! This is my first blog!! And, I would request all of you to pour in your comments which I would really appreciate. Thanks!!

There were many articles in magazines, many blogs and many comments by eminent leaders(??) about the second term as The President for Dr.Abdul Kalam. Dr.Jayalalitha went to the extent of calling Prathibha Patil's candidature " A Joke played on the Nation!! "And, She called Karunanithi a betrayer! He betrayed TamilNadu people not supporting a Tamil Candidate!! All these talks just made me laugh and laugh.. I just started thinking what has this Dr.Kalam done specially for the improvement of India?? I'm very sure that I'll definitely get oppositions from many readers after I finish this article. Yet, I always have the responsibility to answer them all.

And We humans, possess the ability to think. We obviously get a question.. Why should Abdul Kalam be made the President again? What special qualities does he possess to become the President for the second time while there was only one man in the Indian history who had enjoyed it twice? Dr. Rajendra prasad.

Dr.Kalam, the so called well wisher of children of India, the so called well wisher of Indian Youth has miserably failed in giving his opinion on many issues which involved Education and Children. He had always talked in support of Children's welfare in public meetings and whenever he met students. " The Reservation for OBC's" issue which really made many students fast and do strikes.. The same Kalam didn't even give his opinion on this. The same happened with the entrance examination case. He didn't give his opinion about abolition of the Entrance Examinations for students entering into Engineering after 12 th Standard, which was an important issue then.. But, still he remains the HERO of many young people of India, which really surprises me..

He was more of a rubber stamp president except few cases like the return of OOP(Office Of Profit) bill, with some suggestions . No one can forget that he was in Russia while giving the order for dismissal of Nitesh Kumar's Govt in Bihar!! I read a article in "Ananda Vikadan" by Mr.Gnani. A very nice article questioning the same. I really appreciate his boldness for writing such an article in one of the most popular weeklies in TamilNadu.

Above all, Dr.Kalam didn't want the second term at all, initially. Later, When some parties like UNPA and NDA extended support he said he would contest if there is certainty!!Isn't it a joke played on nation?? How would a president say I'll contest if it's sure that I'll win!?? Didn't he degrade himself by saying so?? I still don't find answers to these questions.. Please help me find the answers!

akka- what do u want him to do... change this country which is eroded with corruption.... always the president has powers of only of a rubber stamp.... particularly in this country....

first tell ur country f****** politicians to change and change the f***** system and then you can comment on a such a great person....

You would not be writing this blog without him... he was the person who was involved in creation of the Indian defence system... Brahmos was a product of him.. there may be russian connection but the lot of ideas were genereated by this great man....he was the person who put India in the space community...

just because he did not speak about this OBC issue (which is completely fucked up because of the so called politicians), it does not mean that he should not stand for the second term....

what has this bloody prathibha patil done to your so caleld great country...

Well, I have few conflicts of thought with ur post..

Dr.Kalam is of course a HERO! He has a great vision for the INDIAN YOUTH. I agree with the sad fact that he didn't take steps against reservation of OBCs or regarding engineering counselling. But you just can't blame a man because of this. He may be a rubber stamp president in many cases, but when the so called HIGHLY QUALIFIED PM manmohan singh does NOTHING for the education system of India and is a puppet literally, why do you have to blame Dr.Kalam for everything? You can better write a post on our PM before turning towards our president. For heaven's sake, he is a man who reached out to the youth which no president did or will do!

I read anantha vikatan last week and that Gnani's article. He claims that the students lost interest after seeing kalam and listening to his speech. Had he witnessed the president's speech, he would never have got the guts to point his finger against this great man! Neither did you, Miss. Janani. you would have experienced the aura of inspiration around u.

I am proud that I took the oaths he recited!

He never wanted to contest for the second time. Remember him commenting on Prathibha Patil's selection as "FANTASTIC". But the NDA and UNPA pulled him to the street and he ultimately became a clown . It was their persuasion. But what is wrong in him expecting a certainty? It is after all nothing against the political ethics. He just wanted to stay safe with the certainty. Just take the word "Certainty" naturally in a human way. It is obvious of anyone to speak like that in that postion.

Prathibha Patil, though is a great selection, she has been MLA 5 times and has done lots of welfare projects for the people ( though she's caught up in lots of allegations against her), it is unwise to compare her and Kalam as he was a great scientist.

Remember that he always planned to go back to rameshwaram after his tenure and this news was being aired in the news since months. He 's not of the kind who's craving for the second time.

J.J may not have pulled Dr.Kalam, but it is the usual political stunts played by the two parties of TN in giving PUNCH DIALOGUES every now and then. She meant "betrayal" by Karunanidhi because Dr.Kalam was elected unanimously in the first time and so for the second time, karunanidhi didn't support kalam. the "thamizhan" dialogues by her are just to spice up things.

It is the overall mess made by all the parties and especially the third front in the presidential election issue. Many lakhs of people including me wanted him to be the president of india again. It's a collective persuasion which was used by the 3 rd front in their favour (but the requests against reservation by lakhs of students were not highlighted by the parties , ironical and I admit).

Kalam is a good hearted man, he has never used his influence for any of his friends or family members and has helped children in need with his own money - he sent a girl Rs.20,000 from his own pocket for her operation on seeing her letter and many others. He has boldly returned the OOP Bill. he was unfavoured by sonia after that..

The politicians betrayed him!

Hey!! Nit!!

Really expected this one from the owner of Dr. Abdul Kalam community! It was a surprise to me that it took these many days for u to comment on this!Anyway, let me keep my points before u!

No one calls our PM a hero or the icon of Indian Youth! They call Dr.Kalam "THE ICON". It's really not a surprising thing when you think about this. Indians always have this habit of worshiping someone for a period of time for no reason and then critisising the same person after some period of time.

This so called ICON!! what has he done for the Indian Youth other than speaking! Thats what I ask! Mr.Gnani said he had the chance to meet those students after their meeting with Dr.Kalam.. so, you cannot deny the fact he has put forth! He had the guts to put his points(which is true and those are facts nithya!) before everyone though it's controversial. I appreciate him for that..

He got pesuaded??? you accept that!! How did the so called "ICON" get persuaded?? Was he persuaded by their speech or the power and fame behind the position??As you said, he said he planned to go back to Rameshwaram and render services to poor students as a teacher..What made him say that he would contest only if there is certainity?? Was not it a shame on his part?

Kalam is a good hearted man!you said!! May be true or may be not! But my argument is he does not possess any special quality to become the president for the second time. Presidentship involves and requires a great deal of ability and political knowledge than being kind and good! You just cannt sit in Rissia and dissolve an assembly just like that! Right?Hope you agree with me here..

I read a very good article by my brother in law which is getting published in "EPW- Economic and Political Weekly"- a popular magazine. Since it has not been published yet, I'm not in a position to put it here.Once it gets published, I'll put it here for you all. It stresses the importance of a non-partisan and a political president in India. A very impressive article!

Thanks Nithya! for your comments!!

I agree with your view on Dr.Kalam. He did not ask to be a ICON, He appears to be like any other top rung scientist / Adminstrator, who was given a lucky chance to be President. He wanted to spread the word that it is possible for anyone to become big, I suppose.

There was a big team of scientists doing work at DRDO and other establsihments. No one person can be attributed to any success..

I also appreciated GNAni's view point. Kalam was in a positon to say things about Educational reforms and starvation deaths, but he was only dreaming all the time , and trying to motivate others to bring out the changes!

Now that he is a free man, probably he will get into social service in a big way, and bring out the changes he often talked about?

I think K.R.Narayanan added more dignity to the post of the President .

Good post .

hi
i read ur article abt mr kalam .he is the best president india had ever had . he do the best more than the post required . he gave a new vision to india like 2020 . he has a vision in Education on children he named it Tele-education . he had worked for tat behind the scenes even the credit goes to govt .
still u dont believe , look at prathiba patel and decide wat he had achieved

Thanks for this fine piece of analysis.

Kalam was inspiration to many, to his colleagues, and more particularly to the student community. I dont think any other person can fill the void created by him.

Janani, please write more and often.. cheers.

i believe you must be knowing what the limitations are for the President of India...

And you have rightly pointed out that he was mute in some critical issues... i completely agree with you...

Only one justification from my side... though i do not have any special liking towards him... Like for a position/Post so visible like the President, the person in that should be Good first, then Be an inspiration and an example.... So, when you consider that He would have been th best choice when compared to the other corrupt leaders....

Hello Janani (akka),
Presidential candidate is not allowed to take major decisions in India. May be its true with prime minister too now :)

I certainly agree on OBC issues, but think that if any change has to happen..it should be from state level ... it is not practical to implement changes reflecting 1 B people.

In Abdul kalam's 'Wings of fire'... He has clearly mentioned the Indian defense and its progress.

In my personal experience, I had met him thrice in both educational and political stages, I can certainly say that no politician would be able to speak on education or its importance in global scale as he does ....i had a chance to listen to Advani , vajpai speech ..it is purely political...

Presidential post is a honor for an Indian to be First Citizen of India. and it has very limited privileges .... so not only abdul kalam..any one who comes to that position shall not be able to do revolution .
